The diary holder is sewn all around with bias tape or leather tape. It closes with a snap fastener or other system.

It has two interior flaps for inserting the diary and an elastic band for a pen. Depending on the piece, it may contain other dividers. The interior can be made of thinner leather or synthetic leather.

It is made with appliqués that can be a mixture of materials: leather, buttons, beads, various fabrics, crochet, among others. It can also be engraved in low relief with a pyrograph.

The leather should not be exposed to water to avoid staining. It may contain small imperfections such as veins, typical of leather. It should be cleaned periodically with a cleanser or moisturizer.
